For decades, my dad’s life was defined by the relentless pace of the corporate world. His days were built on boardroom meetings, executive decisions, and early morning commutes.
But when retirement finally arrived, he quickly realized something: he is not the kind of man who can just sit still. The quiet of a suddenly empty schedule simply didn’t suit him. He needed a project. He needed to create something real.
He traded his tailored suits for a kitchen apron and turned his attention to a lifelong passion that the corporate world had never left him time for: the rich, handcrafted food traditions of the Mediterranean.
He found his rhythm not in spreadsheets, but in the meticulous art of preservation. He spent months in the kitchen experimenting, tasting, and perfecting a simple, beautiful tradition: preserving vibrant, spicy chilis, crisp carrots, and fresh garlic in pure extra virgin olive oil. He applied the same exactness he used in his career to getting the crunch, the heat, and the flavor balance absolutely perfect.
Soon, our family fridge was overflowing with jars. Then, our friends started asking for their own stashes. Finally, we realized this recipe was simply too good to keep to ourselves.
That’s how PICKLED. was born.
Today, we are a family-run, small-batch operation proudly based right here in Ottawa. My dad handles the handcrafted production, ensuring every single jar has the perfect crunch and is packed to the brim with premium olive oil. I handle the branding, the jars, and getting his masterpiece into your hands.
This isn't just a jar of food to us. It’s a labor of love, a tribute to a rich culinary heritage, and proof that sometimes the best chapters in life start in the kitchen.
